- I love fabric and, in my textile pieces, I work to glorify the essence of cloth. I've found that textile figures, or dolls as I call them, satisfy me the most in expressing the form of the human figure. As Federico Fellini said, "All art is autobiographical." Even though a lot of my current work is self-portraiture, what I create today I couldn't have done yesterday because of what I experienced between then and now. Every minute counts.
I truly esteem the material associations I fit in with, most particularly my neighborhood fiber expressions organization and the Michigan League of Handweavers. My nearby fiber expressions organization, particularly, blessings me with such a variety of dear companions who I can do "materials and fiber talk". The Surface Design Association (state, national and universal), FAN (Fiber Arts Network of Michigan), and the Handweavers Guild of America have additionally been imperative in my material journey.The starting components are shape and size. The framework of the shape, for me, should be basic so that the designing can be exceptionally mind boggling. I have built up various doll shapes that I consider my own canvas and those shapes I rehash frequently. From the get-go in my doll making profession I made life size figures, I soon discovered them uncomfortable for me to work.
