Disperse Dyes on Synthetic Fabric

Disperse dye printed layers by Jennifer Gould

The Lakeshore Fiber Arts Guild’s next program will feature Jennifer Gould on “Disperse Dyes for Synthetic Fabrics” on Wed., Jan. 14, at the Holland Area Arts Council, 150 East 8th St., Holland, MI 49423, starting at 6:30pm.  Non-members are asked to pay $5 toward the speaker’s fee.

Disperse dye is a special type of dye made specifically for polyester, nylon, acrylic, and acetate rayon fabrics. Jennifer’s talk will focus on transfer printing and its possibilities with synthetics with many actual samples.  A short hands-on portion will be possible for those interested.

The Lakeshore Fiber Arts Guild invites anyone interested in the textile fiber arts to their monthly program meetings held the first Wednesday of each month at the Holland Area Arts Council. For more information, visit the guild’s blog at http://lakeshorefiberartsguild.blogspot.com.

SD ON FABRIC and DOLLMAKING Workshops at Crooked Tree Art Center

"Red Roots" by Jennifer Gould
Printed, painted, stitched; cotton, synthetics

I'll be teaching two workshop classes at the Crooked Tree Arts Center in Williamsburg, Michigan, in late June.  The arts center services Traverse City and Petoskey areas.  They're offering a special Early Bird Discount through March 15, so they're encouraging students to register early!  Both classes will be lots of fun.  The surface design class will make a lot of fabric, much of which could be used on a doll, such as the Big Skirt Lady/Angel, which follows on Friday, the 26th.

SURFACE DESIGN ON FABRIC:  Wed./Thurs., June 24 and 25
Stamped and painted knit fabric by Jennifer Gould
Using professional quality textile paints, create patterns on any kind of fabric - natural and synthetics for quilts, clothing, upholstery and more! Students have access to Jennifer's large collection of stamps and stencils (many hand made unique designs) to combine with airbrushed backgrounds, layering of images for visual depth, and fine line drawing to create your own uniquely designed and personal imagery on fabric. Students bring their own pre-washed and dried fabric.  Link to Crooked Tree website and workshop info:  https://apm.activecommunities.com/crookedtreearts/Activity_Search/jennifer-gould-surface-design-on-fabric/89

THE BIG SKIRT LADY/ANGEL DOLL, Frid., June 26
Create your own 12" tall feminine and elegant wall-hung lady with (or without) wings. A simple design with lots of embellishment possibilities, Jennifer Gould's unique design of her Big Skirt Lady / Angel Doll has a sheer floaty gathered skirt, metallic hair, a hand-drawn and painted face, fancy bodice and iridescent wings. Prior to class, suggestions are made on fabric possibilities and needed supplies to make the experience fun and satisfying. Lots of sample dolls will be on hand to illustrate the possibilities, guidance through each step of making, sewing, and stuffing.  Link to Crooked Tree website and workshop info:
